Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus is a perspective where such preferences are considered to be the products of structural variables such as educational background, geographical background and gender. What do they consider important when they are planning their future occupation? Are their preferences the result of gender, residence or the education of their father? There are different ways of understanding the formation of individual preferences and values. The purpose of this article is to study patterns of occupational preferences among young people in Norway. A postscript is added at the end of the chapter, as the study area was revisited five years later to examine if there were any changes to the position of rural women as a result of agricultural modernization. The question is, what does this change imply for the status of rural women? My interest in this chapter is to examine the division of labour by gender in padi production in the village of Semanggol, Perak and to locate therein the nature of gender relations, an issue normally disregarded by most researchers.1 The second part of this chapter will then link up with the gender division of labour at a wider level, that is, in the relationship between production and reproduction. For example, Wong (1983: 181) observes how, in a village in the Muda irrigation plain, the combine harvester replaces two manual processes - harvesting which is usually done by women and threshing which is undertaken by young boys and men. It has also been noted that as wet padi production is developed through the years as a commercial crop, and as farm mechanization is introduced, the division of labour also changes. #Aku shaper installation manual softwareĪku Shaper is a practical and intuitive software solution geared towards users who need to design their own surfboard, based on specific width, thickness, length and curve dimensions.Įspecially intended for surfboard enthusiasts, the application comes with complex options that they can choose from. Most contemporary studies reveal that there is a division of labour in wet padi cultivation in Peninsular Malaysia (Purcal, 1971 Selvadurai, 1972 Kuchiba et al., 1979 Wong, 1983). When you launch the program for the first time, you will notice that the main window includes several tabs that allow you to adjust the settings according to your needs.
